MES Family Update 9.25

Hello MES Families!
MES started their week off with Pajama Day on Tuesday, and I have to say - I saw the BEST pajamas! From princesses to Super Mario, our kids have the best style. 😊
On Wednesday, we had our first school-wide Morning Meeting and Closing Circle, where we talked all about Self-Control. We discussed what it looks like to practice self-control at school and in our daily lives. We also played games like “Simon Says” and “Freeze Dance” to practice using self-control in a fun and lighthearted way.
I encourage you to keep these conversations going at home as we move throughout the year. Consider giving your child different situations and asking what they might do. For example:

  • A friend says something unkind to you.
  • You are feeling really angry and want to scream.
  • You didn't get the turn or item you were promised.
  • You know the answer or have something to share, but you haven't been called on yet.
  • A friend is being disruptive and wants you to join in.
Talking through these scenarios at home can help children think about appropriate ways to react, use their words to kindly respond, cope with big feelings, or seek help from an adult when needed. In doing so, we know our students can “Succeed with Self-Control,” which is our district focus this year!

Looking at the Week Ahead

It's important to note two unfortunate cancellations:
  • EEK 5K, Color Run & 1-Mile Walk: The event has been postponed to November due to the weather forecast. If you already signed up, you should have received an email with the updated information. If you are able to make the rescheduled date, we would love to see you there as we work toward winning the $1,000 for MES! Thank you in advance to everyone who planned to participate and help MES reach our goal.
  • Playland Fundraiser: The Ocean City Playland fundraiser scheduled for this weekend has been canceled and rescheduled for October 3rd.

Other Events & Updates

  • Rita’s Dine Out: Tonight from 5–8 PM on N. Maple Ave!
  • Coat Donation: Nordstrom Rack partnered with Operation Warm to donate 120 brand-new coats to MES in a variety of sizes! If your child is in need of a coat this year, please just let us know. ❤️
  • Book Fair Family Night: October 2nd at 6 PM at MES!
