Role of the School Nurse

The School Nurses in Evesham Township work in conjunction with our school physician, Dr. Tina Josephson, to provide health services for the students. Healthy children will be more successful in the educational setting. The school nurse supports the physical, emotional, mental and social needs of the student in order to accomplish this goal. She uses clinical knowledge and professional judgment to assess the student's healthcare needs while collaborating with the family and the school personnel to develop a plan of care that will help the student to achieve success in their academic careers. The school nurse is responsible for:

  • Assessing illnesses and injuries and providing appropriate interventions
  • Annual health screenings which include hearing, vision, height, weight, and blood pressures
  • Health education and counseling for students, staff and parents
  • Medication administration
  • Immunization surveillance
  • Assisting with the identification and nursing care management of students with chronic health conditions and special education needs
  • Serves as the school liaison to home and community resources initiating referrals as needed
  • Develops Individualized Health Care Plans as well as Emergency Care Plans to meet the specialized needs of the students
  • Promotes a healthy and safe school environment
  • Coordinates and oversees the Emergency Response Team in the school
